India Yamaha Motors launched the SZ bike in India. It is a 150cc model that will ply in the power-commuter segment in India.
An online news portal about auto industry - www.zigwheels.com, writes about the Yamaha SZ, “After successfully returning back in the Indian two-wheeler market with its premium FZ series and the YZF-R15 sports model, Yamaha India has once again shifted its focus back on the commuter segment based on its top-own strategy. Recently the company launched the entry level YBR110 motorcycle in order to reap the benefits of India's huge mass segment. Yamaha has set its sights on the emerging two-wheeler market in India and apart bringing in lifestyle products, the Japanese major now wants to play in the emerging style-commuter segment.”
Further the news portal writes about the technical specifications of Yamaha SZ motor bike, “Christened as the 'SZ', the new bike is powered by a 150cc engine mated to a 5-speed transmission. The motor makes 12.1PS of power at 7,500rpm and 12.8Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. The SZ-X variant is equipped with an electric starter but there is no option for disc brakes. Stopping power comes via a 150mm drum for the front and a 130mm drum on the rear. The stylishly designed motorcycle is aimed at commuters looking for style and class with decent power without compromising on fuel efficiency. As one can see in the picture, the bike is basic with regards to equipment and features as it will ply in the emerging power-commuter segment. The Yamaha SZ will directly fight with Bajaj Auto's Discover 150 DTSi and the Honda Unicorn. With added spunk and stylish appeal, the new motorcycle does promise to spruce up Yamaha's credibility in the commuter segment but if it will shake the power-commuter segment, still remains to be seen.” It will create some more competition for Bajaj Discover 150 DTSi.
